According to experts at technology specialists TelephoneSystems.Cloud, businesses in the UK are better at consulting with employees about workplace technology decisions ahead of six other global leaders.

Almost 80% of UK employers who have adopted new technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) actively consult their staff on how to use it in the workplace.

Experts say the data offers valuable insight into workplace attitudes around the world - and those who are leveraging the latest technology will continue to grow in the global market.

Percentage of employers who consult staff on the use of new tech

RankCountryPercentage
1UK78.8%
2Ireland65.8%
3Germany56.5%
4Canada38.8%
5Australia37%
6USA28.4%
7France27.1%

Ireland follows the UK with 65.5% of employers engaging with workers on new tech, followed by Germany where the rate is 56.5%.

The UK also leads against Canada, Australia, USA and France, all of which are below the global average of 47.5% for consulting employees on technology adoption.

The rise of AI has brought decision making around technology to the forefront of business leaders‘ to-do lists with rapid tech adoption in the workplace proving pivotal for business success around the world.

The sudden changes can be challenging for employees to adapt to without support from leaders, and there is a huge risk to business productivity, efficiency and progress unless decision-makers optimise workplace communication and collaboration.

Juliet Moran, Technical Director at TelephoneSystems.Cloud says the data offers valuable insight into workplace attitudes around the world but isn’t surprised to see the UK leading the way based on conversations she has with her customers.

She said: “It‘s great to see the UK leading the way in consulting with employees around new technology like AI.

“The digital transformations happening in many workplaces around the globe will help to streamline processes, improve communication and enhance productivity long term, but employers implementing changes must support employees in making the switch.

“It’s easy for business leaders to be scared of adopting new technologies, especially AI with the narrative around it taking workers‘ jobs.

“In truth, if used correctly, it can help in many ways, even with everyday tasks, freeing up time to accomplish higher-value goals which will benefit companies in the long run.

“Internal communication is key to keeping employees engaged and it will give leaders an insight into how the onboarding of new technologies like AI is working.

“Suddenly switching up processes can be overwhelming for employees, so keeping an open and supportive culture will be key to successful implementation.

“We are already seeing negative outcomes for businesses that are not consulting employees, as it will be hard for them to get desired results and retain staff.”

“The UK tech industry reached a combined market value of £1 trillion in 2022, and if the trend continues of business taking a collaborative approach to introducing new technologies, British companies will hope to challenge major global competitors.”

“Workplaces continue to report that new technologies are more likely to improve performance and working conditions when workers are consulted.”

“While a forward-thinking approach to technology is necessary to succeed, leaders must continue to support employees through the transition if they want to see results.”
